School Policies

School policies cover every aspect of school life. Below are some of our most important policies for your reference. If you want to know our policy on something that is not listed, please ask the school office.

Hard copies of information displayed are available upon request, as an eco-friendly school we would prefer to email documents where an email address is provided.

Mobile Phones
As you may be aware, new legislation means that mobile phones must not be used in school. While this has always been our expectation at The Lanes, we have reviewed and updated our policy to reflect the latest guidance.

For some children in Year 6 who walk to and from school, phones can continue to be brought to school where needed. They must be switched off as soon as children enter the school site and handed in at the start of the day. Phones are locked away securely and returned at the end of the school day.

If a child is found with a phone on the school site, it will be confiscated and stored in the school office. A parent/responsible adult will then need to collect it at the end of the day; it will not be returned directly to the child.

Smart Watches
Smart watches also need to be used appropriately in school. Any watch with a camera must be handed in and stored with mobile phones. Communication and gaming features must also be disabled. If staff have reason to believe these features are being used or have not been disabled, the watch will be removed and stored securely until the end of the day.
We recognise that there may be specific exceptions, such as children who use a device to support diabetes monitoring. These arrangements can be agreed through the process outlined in the policy.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe, focused and distraction-free environment for all our children.
The updated policy can be found on the here
